Women often have different treatment issues than men. ReDiscover offers unique programming that specializes in the needs of women and their children.
Women are able to bring their children, ages 12 and under, with them to residential and outpatient treatment. Our onsite child development center works with children from birth to age 12. The center helps children express feelings, develop social skills, manage behavior and understand the effects of chemical dependency on the family. We also assess the needs of the children, and help their mothers obtain other needed resources and services for their children.
Parenting classes and individualized parenting services are offered to assist mothers in improving their skills as parents. Priority admission is given to pregnant and postpartum women.
What about young women who are turning 18 or older? We also provide specialized services for young adults with serious mental illnesses who are making the transition from residential treatment to adult living. Our transitional living program helps young adults with serious mental illness find their first apartments. We provide fairly intensive oversight and case management support to help ease the transition to independent living status.
Mental illnesses affect women and men differently. Some disorders are more common in women, and some express themselves with different symptoms. Women frequently are not aware of the age dependent circumstances that can put them at risk for certain disorders.
